A look at the Columbia Metropolitan Area and what it feels like to hand over keys to someone’s new home.

There’s a specific moment at every closing that I still don’t take for granted: handing over the keys.

It sounds simple. It’s not. By the time we get there, you’ve made a major financial decision, navigated inspections and negotiations and paperwork, and kept your life mostly on hold waiting for things to clear. And now here we are.

The Greater Columbia Metropolitan Area
If you’re not from here, the Columbia metro area tends to surprise people. There’s a lot of variation — from the city itself to suburban neighborhoods with good schools and short commutes, to lakeside communities further out. The region has a mix of buyers: first-timers, people relocating, military families, and folks upsizing or downsizing within the same county they’ve lived in for years. That mix keeps the market interesting and keeps me sharp.

What the work actually looks like
Most of what I do isn’t visible to you. It’s the pre-showing research, the offer strategy conversations, the back-and-forth with listing agents, the re-reading of inspection reports at 10pm. That’s the part I don’t talk about much. But it matters, because real estate moves fast and small decisions compound.

What happens after the keys
My job doesn’t end at closing. If you have questions about contractors, permits, neighbors, or what something in your HOA documents actually means, call me. I’d rather you have one person to text than spend two hours Googling something I already know the answer to.

So yes, the keys moment is the good part. But it’s also just the beginning of you actually living in the place. That’s what I’m rooting for.
